2025 ATP Finals: Jannik Sinner Defeats Carlos Alcaraz to Defend ATP Finals Title

(No. 2) Jannik Sinner def. (No. 1) Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (4), 7-5

Jannik Sinner defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the championship match of the Nitto ATP Finals on Sunday, 7-6(4), 7-5 to successfully defend his title in Turin. Backed by an Italian crowd, the World No. 2 earned his second win of the season over the top ranked Alcaraz, adding to his Wimbledon win earlier in the year. Despite the result, Alcaraz still leads their career head to head 10-6.

Sinner and Alcaraz have dominated men’s tennis throughout 2025, combining for 14 titles, including all four majors. Their meeting in Turin marked their sixth final of the season, adding to their rivalry as the defining matchup of the sport. With this win, Sinner captured his 11th Big Title — Grand Slams, ATP Finals trophies, Masters 1000 titles, and Olympic gold — placing him just three Big Titles behind Alcaraz.

The final opened with both players producing a high level of tennis. Alcaraz escaped danger at 2-2, 40/40 with a backhand down the line, and Sinner responded in the next game with a backhand winner of his own. Sinner saved a set point at 5-6 with a bold 117 mph second serve that Alcaraz could not return. In the tiebreak, Sinner seized control by chasing down a drop shot and lifting a precise lob that set up an overhead finish, to win the first set.

Alcaraz broke early in the second set, but Sinner rallied, showing poise in the key moments. He extended his indoor winning streak to 31 matches, a run that includes titles in Rotterdam, Vienna, Paris, and now back-to-back ATP Finals titles, as well as major contributions to Italy’s Davis Cup success. Despite Alcaraz holding slim advantages in winners (28-25) and committing slightly more unforced errors (26-24), Sinner’s steadiness proved decisive. He struck eight aces to Alcaraz’s five, though he also hit five double faults to none from Alcaraz.

Although Alcaraz had already secured the year end World No. 1 ranking, the final represented a significant milestone in his season ending run. He finished 2025 with a 71-9 record and a tour-leading eight titles highlighted by wins at Roland Garros and the US Open. Sinner closed his year at 58-6, lifting titles at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, the ATP Finals, Paris, Beijing, and Vienna.
