2025 ATP Madrid Open Semifinal Recap

The semifinals of the 2025 Madrid Open on the ATP side has wrapped up, with No. 5 Jack Draper and No. 14 Casper Ruud advancing to the final.

(No. 5) Jack Draper def. (No. 10) Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 7-6 (4)

Jack Draper advanced to the Madrid Open final with a straight-sets win over Lorenzo Musetti. Both players traded early breaks in the opening set, but Draper proved to be the more consistent and composed player, closing it out 6-3.

In the second set, both players held serve throughout, each saving break points to force a tiebreak. Draper earned a break on the fifth point of the breaker and used that momentum to close out the match.

With the win, Draper not only earns a spot in the final but also breaks into the Top 5 of the ATP rankings for the first time when the new rankings are released next week.

Draper will face Casper Ruud in the final, with a chance to win his second Masters 1000 title of the season after winning in Indian Wells.

(No. 14) Casper Ruud def. (No. 20) Francisco Cerundolo 6-4, 7-5

Casper Ruud fought through a rib injury to defeat Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets, earning a spot in his first Madrid Open final. The Norwegian received treatment just three games into the match, but managed to play through the pain.

Cerundolo held the lead multiple times—up a break at 3-2 in the first set and again at 2-1 and 4-3 in the second—but each time Ruud responded breaking back all three times. Ruud saved 15 of the 18 break points he faced and convereted on 5 of his 9 break chances.

With this run to the final, Ruud is set to re-enter the ATP Top 10 for the first time in over a year. He will take on Jack Draper in the final for the Madrid title.
