2025 Australian Open: Quarterfinals Recap

The quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open have wrapped up, and the semifinal matchups are set.

WTA

(No. 1) Aryna Sabalenka def. (No. 27) Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2, 2-6, 6-3

Two-time defending Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the semifinals with a three-set win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Sabalenka dropped the second set and came back from a break down twice in the final set to secure the victory.

This marks Sabalenka’s 10th career Grand Slam semifinal, where she will face 11th-ranked Paula Badosa for a spot in the final.

(No. 11) Paula Badosa def. (No. 3) Coco Gauff 7-5, 6-4

Former World No. 2 Paula Badosa pulled off an upset over 3rd-ranked Coco Gauff in straight sets to advance to a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time in her career. Badosa secured the first break of the match at 5-5 in the opening set and maintained her momentum for the rest of the match for the victory.

This was Badosa’s first win over a top-10 opponent at a Grand Slam, and she will face World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka next for a spot in the final.

(No. 19) Madison Keys def. (No. 28) Elina Svitolina 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

Madison Keys came back from a set down against Elina Svitolina to reach her third career Australian Open semifinal. Keys has started her season in impressive form, extending her winning streak to 10 matches after winning the title in Adelaide the week before the Australian Open.

Keys will now face 2nd-ranked Iga Swiatek for a spot in the final.

(No. 2) Iga Swiatek def. (No. 8) Emma Navarro 6-1, 6-2

Iga Swiatek earned a dominant straight-sets win over Emma Navarro to advance to the semifinals. Swiatek has yet to drop a set in the tournament and has lost just 14 games across all her matches.

Swiatek will face 19th-ranked Madison Keys next for a spot in the final.

(No. 1) Jannik Sinner def. (No. 8) Alex De Minaur 6-3, 6-2, 6-1

World No. 1 and defending Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner made quick work of Alex de Minaur, winning in straight sets to advance to the semifinals. Sinner dealt with some physical challenges during his fourth-round win against Holger Rune, but he appeared to be back in top form from start to finish against de Minaur.

Sinner will face 21st-ranked Ben Shelton next for a spot in the final.

(No. 21) Ben Shelton def. Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4)

Ben Shelton advanced to his second career Grand Slam semifinal with a four-set win over Lorenzo Sonego. Every set in the match was highly competitive, ending in a tiebreak in the fourth set, where Shelton managed to secure the win.

Shelton will face World No. 1 Jannik Sinner next for a spot in the final.

(No. 7) Novak Djokovic def. (No. 3) Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4

Novak Djokovic overcame an injury and rallied from a set down to defeat Carlos Alcaraz in four sets. Djokovic struggled with a left leg injury early in the match and took a medical timeout to receive treatment. However, he returned to the court as the aggressor and dominated the rest of the match.

Djokovic became the first man to reach 50 Grand Slam semifinals and will face No. 2 Alexander Zverev for a spot in the final.

(No. 2) Alexander Zverev def. (No. 12) Tommy Paul 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-0), 2-6, 6-1

Alexander Zverev advanced to his third Australian Open semifinal with a four-set win over Tommy Paul. Paul served for both of the first two sets at 6-5 in the first and 5-3 in the second, but Zverev saved both match points and dominated the tiebreakers to take a two-set lead.

Zverev will face 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic next for a spot in the final.
