2025 Cincinnati Open: Men’s Semifinals Recap

(No. 1) Jannik Sinner def. Terence Atmane 7-6 (4), 6-2

World No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner booked his place in an eighth career ATP Masters 1000 final with a straight-sets win over World No. 136 Terence Atmane.

The opening set was more competitive than expected, with both players dominating behind their serves. Neither faced a single break point, and Sinner lost only three points on serve throughout the set. The Italian held to love three times in a row to force a tiebreak, where Atmane handed him the early advantage with a costly double fault. From there, Sinner took control and closed out the set.

The second set began with more dominant serving from Sinner, who finally broke through for a 3-1 lead. That cushion allowed him to swing freely, reeling off another love hold to go up 4-1. Serving at 2-5 to stay in the match, Atmane quickly fell behind 0-40, and Sinner sealed victory on his third match point.

Sinner will now face World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in Monday’s final, their fourth championship match of the season following Rome, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon.

(No. 2) Carlos Alcaraz def. (No. 3) Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-3

Carlos Alcaraz advanced to his seventh straight tour-level final with a win over Alexander Zverev on Saturday, setting up yet another matchup with Jannik Sinner.

The opening set was played at a high level, with both men trading powerful baseline exchanges before Alcaraz found a late surge of brilliance to take the advantage. In the second, however, Zverev’s physical struggles resurfaced. The German, who had required treatment in his quarterfinal win against Ben Shelton, left the court for a medical timeout at 2-1 and appeared compromised from then on.

After gifting back an early break with three consecutive double faults, Alcaraz quickly regrouped. He broke again to move ahead 4-2, and with Zverev fading, the Spaniard closed out the match with authority.

Through to his ninth career ATP Masters 1000 final (7–1 record), Alcaraz will meet World No. 1 Jannik Sinner on Monday in a rematch of their championship match at Rome, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon earlier this season.
