2025 National Bank Open: Women’s Quarterfinals Recap

Victoria Mboko def. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-2

Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko’s fairytale run at the National Bank Open continued on Monday night with a commanding straight-sets win over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

Mboko, who was ranked outside the Top 300 just a year ago, is now projected to break into the Top 50 following her deep run in Montreal. The match started with heavy baseline exchanges and multiple break point opportunities for both players. Games remained on serve until Mboko broke in the eighth game, then held to take the opening set 6-4.

Bouzas Maneiro responded by breaking Mboko to start the second set and jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Canadian fought back winning six straight games to close out the match to advance to her first WTA 1000 semifinal.

Mboko will next face former Wimbledon champion and No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina in the semifinals.

(No. 9) Elena Rybakina def. (No. 24) Marta Kostyuk 6-1, 2-1 (walkover)

No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina advanced to the semifinals after Marta Kostyuk was forced to retire with a wrist injury midway through their quarterfinal match. Rybakina was leading 6-1, 2-1 after 54 minutes of play when Kostyuk withdrew.

This marks Rybakina’s 10th career WTA 1000 semifinal and her fifth semifinal of the season—third most on tour behind Aryna Sabalenka (9) and Iga Świątek (7).

Rybakina will now face Victoria Mboko in the semifinal, in a rematch of their match last week at the Citi Open in Washington, where Rybakina won in straight sets.

Naomi Osaka def. (No. 10) Elina Svitolina 6-2, 6-2

Naomi Osaka cruised into her first National Bank Open semifinal with a dominant straight sets win over 10th seed Elina Svitolina on Tuesday night.

The four-time Grand Slam champion was sharp throughout, saving 4 of 5 break points she faced while converting 5 of 7 chances on Svitolina’s serve. The win marks Osaka’s sixth career semifinal at the WTA 1000 level and her first since Miami in 2022.

Osaka will face No. 16 seed Clara Tauson in the semifinal.

(No. 16) Clara Tauson def. (No. 6) Madison Keys 6-1, 6-4

Clara Tauson continued her breakout run in Montreal with a straight-sets win over No. 6 seed and reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys.

Coming off a statement win over world No. 3 Iga Świątek in the previous round, Tauson backed it up, saving all three break points she faced—two of them in the opening game—and breaking Keys twice to take the first set 6-1.

In the second set, Tauson broke again in the first game and never looked back, sealing the win 6-4 to advance to her second WTA 1000 semifinal of the season.

She will face Naomi Osaka for a place in the final.
