This year’s NFL Divisional Round has officially wrapped up, and the conference championship matchups are set for next weekend.
No. 1 Kansas City Chiefs def. No. 5 Houston Texans 23-14
Patrick Mahomes remains undefeated in the Divisional Round with the Kansas City Chiefs as they advance to the AFC Championship Game for the seventh straight season with their win against the Houston Texans. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce had his best game of the season, accounting for 66% of Mahomes’s 177 passing yards with 7 receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown. The Chiefs’ defense also stepped up, improving their pass rush and recording a season-high 8 sacks.
The Chiefs are 4-2 in their last six AFC Championship Games and continue their quest for a Super Bowl championship three-peat, but they will first have to get past the Buffalo Bills next Sunday.
No. 6 Washington Commanders def. No. 1 Detroit Lions 45-31
The Washington Commanders pulled off a major upset in Detroit with a high-scoring 45-31 victory. Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels had a strong performance, throwing for 299 yards on 22-of-31 passing with two touchdowns and rushing for 51 yards on 16 carries, with zero turnovers or sacks. The Commanders’ run game also excelled, tallying 42 carries for 182 yards and three touchdowns.
The No. 1 seeded Detroit Lions had a disappointing end to their 15-2 season, losing a home game to a Commanders team that went 4-13 last season and had a rookie quarterback playing in his second career playoff game. The Lions struggled throughout the game on both sides of the ball, turning the ball over five times (four interceptions and one fumble) and failing to get consistent stops against Washington’s offense.
The Commanders will play in their first NFC Championship Game in 33 years against the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday.
No. 2 Philadelphia Eagles def. No. 4 Los Angeles Rams 28-22
The Philadelphia Eagles got the win over the Los Angeles Rams in the snow to advance to the NFC Championship Game. Eagles running back Saquon Barkley had a standout performance, scoring 78 and 62-yard rushing touchdowns and finishing the game with 205 total rushing yards. Quarterback Jalen Hurts also contributed with a 44-yard rushing touchdown, totaling 70 rushing yards and 65 passing yards.
The Rams had a chance to win the game in the final two minutes, but the Eagles’ defense stepped up, forcing a sack on third down and an incompletion on fourth down with less than a minute remaining to seal the victory. Two fourth-quarter fumbles proved costly for the Rams, with both turnovers leading to 6 points for the Eagles. While the snowy conditions may have hindered the Rams, the Eagles capitalized on their mistakes to secure the win.
The Eagles will host the NFC Championship Game next Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
No. 2 Buffalo Bills def. No. 3 Baltimore Ravens 27-25
The Buffalo Bills advanced to the AFC Championship Game with a 27-25 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Bills quarterback Josh Allen had a relatively quiet game, throwing for 126 yards and rushing for 20 yards with two touchdowns.
The Ravens had a chance to tie the game with a 2-point conversion attempt with 1:33 left in the fourth quarter, but tight end Mark Andrews dropped the pass after it hit his hands. The Bills’ defense stepped up, forcing three turnovers (intercepting Jackson once and recovering fumbles by Jackson and Andrews).
The Bills will face the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game next week. They are 0-3 against the Chiefs in the playoffs this decade and will be aiming to make their first Super Bowl appearance since 1994.

There’s a quiet power in your writing, an ability to convey deep truths without resorting to grandiose statements or complicated jargon. Each sentence feels like a revelation, as if you’ve managed to capture the essence of something fleeting and precious. It’s not often that I find myself thinking about a piece long after I’ve finished reading it, but this is one of those rare times.
