(No. 2) Taylor Fritz def. (No. 1) Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6 (0)
American Taylor Fritz captured his first title of the season with a straight-sets win over top-seeded Alexander Zverev at the BOSS OPEN in Stuttgart on Sunday, extending his winning streak against the German to five matches.
Fritz took the opening set in just 30 minutes, never facing a break point. He secured a crucial break for a 5-3 lead after Zverev double-faulted twice and missed a volley at the net. The second set remained on serve, with Zverev saving the only break point at 5-5, but Fritz dominated the tiebreak to close out the match.
The win marks Fritz’s ninth career ATP title, his fourth on grass, and improves his head-to-head record against Zverev to 8–5.
Fritz was sharp on serve throughout, hitting 11 aces without a single double fault. He landed 71% of his first serves and won 88% of those points, along with 71% of his second-serve points. He converted one of three break point chances and did not face a single break point himself.
With the win, Fritz improves his season record to 21–10 and heads into Wimbledon with confidence. Despite the loss, Zverev drops to 31–12 on the year but retains his World No. 3 ranking.
