2025 Super Bowl 59 Recap: Chiefs vs Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs with a 40-22 victory in Super Bowl 59, avenging their Super Bowl 57 loss and denying the Chiefs the chance to become the first NFL team to win three consecutive championships.

The Eagles started strong, jumping to a 24-0 lead in the first half, fueled by two interceptions that led directly to 14 points—Cooper DeJean’s pick-six and Zack Baun’s interception, which set up a Jalen Hurts touchdown pass to A.J. Brown before halftime. Philadelphia extended their lead to 34-0 late in the third quarter, before Patrick Mahomes threw three late touchdown passes to make the final 40-22 score look closer than the game actually was.

Philadelphia’s defense controlled the game, sacking Mahomes a career-high six times and holding the two-time defending champions to just 23 total yards in the first half. The Eagles forced three turnovers (two interceptions and one fumble), with both interceptions leading to 14 points and the fumble setting up a field goal. The Eagles delivered one of the best defensive performances in Super Bowl history, consistently attacking the Chiefs’ offensive line and putting relentless pressure on Mahomes, who looked uncomfortable in the pocket for most of the game, often holding on to the ball too long and being forced into low-percentage throws.

The Chiefs’ defense didn’t have a terrible game, limiting Saquon Barkley to just 57 yards on 25 carries, but ultimately struggled to contain Hurts’ passing and rushing ability, which costed them the chance at a championship 3-peat.

Jalen Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP, completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, while also leading the team in rushing with 72 yards on 11 carries and a rushing touchdown.
