No. 10 Emma Navarro
Emma Navarro has continued her steady rise on the WTA Tour, reaching her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon last year. Since then, she has made deep runs at two more majors, with a quarterfinal appearance at the US Open and a semifinal appearance at the Australian Open.
Coming into this year’s Wimbledon with a 4–3 record on grass, Navarro wasn’t seen as one of the main contenders. However, she has quickly changed that narrative with an impressive run through the first three rounds, highlighted by victories over two former Wimbledon champions, Petra Kvitova and Barbora Krejcikova.
Navarro will now face No. 7 seed Mirra Andreeva, the highest-ranked player remaining in the bottom half of the draw. The two have met once before, with Andreeva winning in straight sets last season in Cincinnati.
No. 13 Amanda Anisimova
Amanda Anisimova is enjoying a breakout year after returning from a mental health break at the start of 2024. She won the biggest title of her career at the WTA 1000 Qatar Open in February and has followed it up with a fourth-round run at the French Open and a finals appearance on grass at Queen’s Club, her first career final on the surface.
Now ranked a career-high No. 12, Anisimova is closing in on a potential top-10 debut. She will face Linda Noskova in the round of 16, looking to reach her second Wimbledon quarterfinal and first since 2022.
ATP
No. 5 Taylor Fritz
Taylor Fritz, the top-ranked American man, entered Wimbledon playing his best tennis after winning titles at Stuttgart and Eastbourne. While many Americans historically struggle on grass, Fritz has proven to be an exception, having won five of his 10 career titles on the surface.
A two-time Wimbledon quarterfinalist, including last year, Fritz battled through five-set matches in each of the first two rounds. He played 109 games through those matches, the third most in Wimbledon history. Fritz will next face world No. 44 Jordan Thompson in the round of 16.
No. 10 Ben Shelton
Ben Shelton has advanced to the Wimbledon round of 16 for the second straight year and is the first American man to reach the round of 16 at three different Grand Slams in a single season since Andy Roddick in 2004. This run follows his semifinal finish at the Australian Open and a round-of-16 appearance at the French Open.
Shelton, who also reached the semifinals at the 2023 US Open, has already won two ATP titles and broke into the top 10 for the first time last month. He will take on Lorenzo Sonego in the round of 16, a player he leads 3–1 in their head-to-head series. Shelton also on the same side of the draw as top seed Jannik Sinner.
