(No. 1) Jannik Sinner def. (No. 10) Ben Shelton 7-6 (2), 6-4, 6-4
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner advanced to the Wimbledon semifinals with a straight sets win over 10th seed Ben Shelton.
Sinner took control of the opening set by capitalizing on Shelton’s inconsistency in the tiebreak, where the American missed four of five first serves. In the second set, Shelton had an early chance to break with two break points at 15/40 in the first game, but Sinner elevated his level to hold and regain momentum. Sinner also put the pressure on Shelton’s serve at 5–4 in both the second and third sets, securing crucial breaks to close out each set to win the match in straight sets.
Sinner’s efficiency on serve was key as he won 50 of 56 first serve points (89%) and finished with nearly twice as many winners (33) as unforced errors (17) compared to Shelton’s 29 winners and 38 unforced errors.
With the win, Sinner reaches his second career Wimbledon semifinal where he will face seven-time champion Novak Djokovic on Friday.
(No. 6) Novak Djokovic def. (No. 22) Flavio Cobolli 6-7 (6), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4
Novak Djokovic booked his place in a record 14th Wimbledon semifinal, surpassing Roger Federer’s record, by defeating 22nd-seeded Flavio Cobolli in four sets.
Djokovic was unable to serve out the first set at 5–3 and later fell behind 2–5 in the tiebreak. Although he saved a set point with a backhand winner, Cobolli stayed composed to take the opener. Djokovic responded with dominant tennis in the second set, raising his first serve percentage to 83% and winning 14 of 15 points on serve while limiting himself to just two unforced errors.
Cobolli fought back in the third, erasing a break deficit to level at 5–5, but struggled to close out the set, handing the break and ultimately the set to Djokovic. In the fourth, Djokovic won the decisive break in the ninth game and served out the match to seal his 52nd career Grand Slam semifinal appearance.
Djokovic hit 13 aces, won 19 of 21 service games, and kept his unforced errors to 22, half as many as Cobolli who had 44 unforced errors. He will now face World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the semifinals on Friday.
(No. 5) Taylor Fritz def. Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4)
Taylor Fritz reached his first career Wimbledon semifinal with a four set win over No. 17 seed Karen Khachanov, becoming the first American man to make the final four at Wimbledon since John Isner in 2018.
Fritz dominated the first two sets without facing a single break point and won 40 of 47 service points. Momentum shifted in the third set as Khachanov won 8 of the next 9 games, capitalizing on a dip in Fritz’s movement following a medical timeout to treat his foot.
Khachanov broke to open the fourth and took a 2–0 lead, but Fritz steadied himself and eventually forced a tiebreak. At 4–4 in the breaker, Fritz reeled off the final three points to close out the match.
With the win, Fritz improves to 13–1 on grass this season, including titles in Stuttgart and Eastbourne, the most grass court wins on the ATP Tour this season. He will face two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals on Friday.
(No. 2) Carlos Alcaraz def. Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-3
Carlos Alcaraz cruised into the Wimbledon semifinals with a commanding straight sets win over unseeded Cameron Norrie, extending his career-best winning streak to 23 matches.
The two-time defending champion was in control from start to finish, and saved all five break points he faced. Alcaraz hit 39 winners, 13 aces, and won 89% of his first serve points, compared to Norrie’s 13 winners, 3 aces, and 63% of first serve points won.
With the win, Alcaraz ties Juan Martin del Potro’s 2008 record for the longest win streak by a male player aged 22 or younger. He face No. 5 seed Taylor Fritz for a spot in the final on Friday.
