2025 Wimbledon: Women’s Semifinals Recap

(No. 13) Amanda Anisimova def. (No. 1) Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4

Amanda Anisimova is through to her first Grand Slam final after stunning World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in three sets on Thursday at Wimbledon.

The match started with both players trading routine service holds, with just one break of serve in each of the first two sets—both coming on double faults. Sabalenka double faulted on set point to hand Anisimova the opening set, while Anisimova returned the favor in the second, double faulting in the seventh game to give Sabalenka a 4–3 lead.

Sabalenka struck first in the decider, breaking for a 1–0 lead, but Anisimova responded immediately, breaking back and winning four straight games to surge ahead 4–1. She soon extended her lead to 5–2. After missing her first match point with a wide backhand at 5–3, Anisimova was broken, allowing Sabalenka to pull within one game. Still, Anisimova remained composed under pressure, breaking Sabalenka to close out the match and book her spot in the final.

Anisimova will face Iga Swiatek on Saturday for the Wimbledon title.

(No. 8) Iga Switek def. Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-0

Iga Swiatek is through to her first Wimbledon final after a commanding straight-sets win over Belinda Bencic.

Swiatek was dominant from start to finish, dictating play with aggressive returns and playing a first-strike style of tennis. She hit 26 winners to Bencic’s 11 and won 83% of her first-serve points. Swiatek also went a perfect 6-for-6 at the net, not allowing Bencic any opportunities to find her rhythm throughout the match.

Bencic had her only break opportunities in the opening game of the second set, but Swiatek held firm and never looked back. From there, she reeled off the final eight games of the match, sealing her place in Saturday’s championship match, where she will face Amanda Anisimova for the Wimbledon title.
