2025 WTA Madrid Open Semifinal Recap

The semifinals of the 2025 Madrid Open on the WTA side have wrapped up, with World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and No. 4 Coco Gauff advancing to the final.

(No. 1) Aryna Sabalenka def. (No. 17) Elina Svitolina 6-3, 7-5

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka ended Elina Svitolina’s nine-match winning streak on clay at WTA events with a straight-sets win to advance to the Madrid Open final. Sabalenka came out strong, taking a 4-1 lead in the opening set. Although Svitolina managed to break back and close the gap to 4-3, but she was unable build on her momentum. Sabalenka regained control and closed out the first set 6-3.

The second set remained close until Sabalenka secured a break at 6-5. She then served out the match, sealing the win. Sabalenka was stayed composed under pressure, saving five of seven break points faced during the match.

With the win, Sabalenka moves into the Madrid Open final for a chance to win her third title at the tournament. She will face No. 4 seed Coco Gauff on Saturday.

(No. 4) Coco Gauff def. (No. 2) Iga Switek 6-1, 6-1

Coco Gauff delivered a dominant performance to defeat defending champion and World No. 2 Iga Swiatek in one of the most dominant wins of her career. Once trailing 1–11 in their head-to-head, Gauff has now won their last three meetings, turning the tide.

After Swiatek held serve to open the match, Gauff won 11 straight games and 12 of the last 13. Her serve was dominant only losing two points on her first serve, hit six aces, and didn’t face a single break point. Gauff tallied 18 winners to just four unforced errors, while Swiatek struggled with inconsistency, hitting 21 unforced errors and only seven winners.

Gauff advances to her first Madrid Open final, where she will face World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka for the title on Saturday.
