2026 Dallas Open: Shelton Saves Three Championship Points to Defeat Fritz in Dallas Final

(No. 2) Ben Shelton def. (No. 1) Taylor Fritz 3-6, 6-3, 7-5

Ben Shelton saved three championship points and staged a dramatic comeback to defeat top-seeded Taylor Fritz 3–6, 6–3, 7–5 on Sunday to capture the title at the Dallas Open. The matchup featured the two highest-ranked American men in the world and delivered one of the most exciting finals of the ATP season.

The 23-year-old Shelton, seeded second and ranked No. 9 in the ATP standings, continued a familiar pattern in Dallas. For the third straight match, he dropped the opening set before mounting a comeback. He flipped the momentum late in the second set by breaking Fritz for a 5–3 lead, then carried that confidence into the decider.

The turning point came at 5–4 in the third set, when Fritz earned three match points on Shelton’s serve. Shelton erased them all, forcing deuce with an overhead smash and a backhand winner before saving the final match point with a clutch volley at the net. He held serve to level the set at 5–5, swinging the pressure in his favor.

Moments later, Fritz’s lone double fault of the match handed Shelton three break points. Shelton converted the second when Fritz pushed a forehand long, then served for the championship. After Fritz saved two match points, Shelton sealed the win on his second opportunity when Fritz’s return on an approach shot fell short, completing Shelton’s fourth career ATP Tour title and his first indoors.

The win marked Shelton’s second ATP 500 title and his first title of the season.
