“Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter was named the best player in college football this season, winning the 2024 Heisman Trophy. Other finalists included Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, Miami quarterback Cameron Ward, and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.”

Hunter, 21, played both wide receiver and cornerback for Colorado, playing 1,380 total snaps this season—760 on offense, 686 on defense, and 24 on special teams. As a wide receiver, he recorded 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns, earning the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s top receiver. On defense, Hunter recorded 31 tackles, 11 pass deflections, and 4 interceptions.

Hunter was not only one of the best receivers in the country this year, but also a lockdown cornerback who could be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft based solely on his defensive skills. He should be the favorite to be the first non-quarterback selected in next year’s draft.

Hunter is the first full-time defensive player to win the Heisman since Michigan cornerback Charles Woodson won over Peyton Manning in 1997. He is also the second non-quarterback to win the Heisman since Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith won the award in 2015.
