Vacheron Constantin’s 222 was designed and released in 1977 to commemorate the brand’s 222nd anniversary, diverging from Vacheron’s typical design language at the time. The 222 was the brand’s first integrated steel sports watch, following the trend set by other brands such as Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe. The original collection included versions in yellow gold, two-tone, and stainless steel. In 2022, the yellow gold version was reissued, and a new stainless steel version was released earlier this week.
This newly released version retains the same design and look as the original, featuring a full stainless steel case, integrated bracelet, and matte-blue dial. The changes are minimal, with the two most noticeable differences being the butterfly-style deployant clasp on the bracelet and the clear exhibition caseback. The case size remains the same at 37mm wide, but the watch is about 1mm thicker than the original.
Vacheron Constantin’s stainless steel Historiques 222 (reference 4200H/222A-B934) retails for $32,000.
