2025 Super Bowl 59 Preview: Chiefs vs Eagles

Super Bowl 59 takes place this Sunday, February 9, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The matchup will be a rematch of Super Bowl 57, where the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35. The Chiefs went on to win Super Bowl 58 last season against the San Francisco 49ers and now have the opportunity to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

The Chiefs’ defense has kept them in most of their games this season, winning 11 games by one score. They have performed consistently throughout the season, ranking fourth in scoring defense allowing an average of just 19.4 points per game. Their pass rush has also been a major strength, recording a combined 10 sacks in their playoff wins against the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills. However, a key factor in this game will be their run defense, as they will be tasked with stopping Saquon Barkley, who has been nearly unstoppable—rushing for 442 yards and five touchdowns in the Eagles’ three playoff games.

The Eagles have been strong on both defense and in the running game for most of the season. Barkley will play a crucial role in their game plan, as he has averaged 147.3 rushing yards per game in the playoffs and has put up over 100 rushing yards in 14 of his last 19 games this season. Their defense has also been elite, holding opponents to a league-best 4.8 yards per play and ranking as a top-five red-zone defense, allowing touchdowns on just 48.2% of trips in the red-zone. Additionally, the Eagles have been dominant in the turnover battle, with a perfect 8-0 turnover differential in the playoffs.
