2025 ATP Miami Open Final Recap

Jakub Mensik def. (No. 4) Novak Djokovic 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4)

19-year-old Czech phenom Jakub Mensik captured the 2025 Miami Open title with a 7-6(4), 7-6(4) win over 37-year-old Novak Djokovic, marking his first ATP 1000 final and career ATP singles title at any level. Mensik nearly withdrew from the tournament due to inflammation in his right knee, heading to the referee’s room to announce his withdrawal before his first match. However, with the official out for lunch, he instead visited the physio, who determined that he would be able to play the tournament with proper treatment and recovery.

In the first set, Mensik got ahead 3-0 with an early break, but Djokovic broke back at 4-3 and held for 4-4. Both players held serve, sending the set to a tiebreak. Mensik dominated early, racing to a 5-0 lead and winning the set with an overhead smash at 6-4. Throughout the match, he outplayed Djokovic with 29 winners, 14 aces, and an impressive 77% win rate on first-serve points while facing just one break point.

With the win, Mensik denied Djokovic his 100th career singles title and a record-extending seventh Miami Open title, preventing him from joining the exclusive club of men with 100 or more ATP singles titles—currently held only by Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer. Mensik’s impressive Miami Open run, which included victories over Top 10 players Taylor Fritz and Jack Draper, propels him 30 spots to a career-high No. 24 in the ATP rankings.
