Novak Djokovic Defeats Carlos Alcaraz to Win Gold at Paris Olympics (Sports)

August 4, 2024

Novak Djokovic has won pretty much everything when it comes to the game of tennis. All except an Olympic gold medal. In past Olympics he failed to reach the finals, until today! As a 37 year old, this 2024 Paris Olympics might have been his last Olympics and opportunity to accomplish the Golden Slam (win all 4 slams and an Olympic gold medal).

Djokovic ended up pulling through beating Carlos Alcaraz 7-6, 7-6. The level of play was gnarly between the both of them, and the match pretty much went down to the tiebreaks. Djokovic like always turns up his ability to lock down and reach another level in these high pressure situations is insane. His play in these high pressure moments is always at a high level.

It’s insane that he’s still playing at this high level at his age. He had knee surgery in May after withdrawing from the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, and comes back a few weeks later to make the final at Wimbledon and now winning Olympic gold back on clay in Roland Garros.

He’s still playing at a high level and currently ranked #2 on the tour, and already has his eyes on the next Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. If he’s able to maintain his health and avoid injuries I’m sure he’d be a favorite to win again in 2028 as a 41 year old.
