The Florida Panthers are now just one win away from repeating as Stanley Cup champions after a dominant 5–2 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night in Edmonton. With the win, the Panthers take a 3–2 series lead and tie the NHL record for most road wins in a single postseason, improving to 10–3 on the road during the 2025 playoffs.
Brad Marchand led the way with two goals, bringing his series total to six—most among all players in the series. Sam Bennett scored his league-leading 15th goal of the playoffs, while Eetu Luostarinen added a goal and an assist. Sergei Bobrovsky was consistent in net, stopping 19 of 21 shots and making key saves at crucial moments.
Unlike earlier games in the series, Florida built a multi-goal lead and never looked back. Their suffocating defense neutralized Edmonton’s attack, particularly on the power play. The Oilers went 0-for-3 with the man advantage, thanks to Florida’s aggressive penalty kill that consistently disrupted Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and the rest of Edmonton’s top unit.
McDavid finally scored his first goal of the series after the Oilers fell behind 0-3, but their momentum was short-lived. Just 46 seconds later, Sam Reinhart scored to restore Florida’s three-goal cushion. Corey Perry scored for Edmonton with 3:13 remaining, but it was too late for an Edmonton comeback effort. Luostarinen sealed the win with an empty-netter with 1:19 left, quieting the Edmonton crowd.
Edmonton goaltender Calvin Pickard suffered his first loss in eight playoff starts, allowing four goals on 18 shots.
Game 6 is set for Tuesday night at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, where the Panthers will have a chance to hoist the Stanley Cup in front of their home crowd with a win.
