Vacheron Constantin Overseas

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas collection was introduced in 1996, nearly two decades after the release of the iconic 222 model. As a modern luxury sports watch offering, the Overseas drew direct inspiration from the 222, featuring a tonneau-shaped case, an integrated bracelet with geometric links, and a fluted, serrated bezel taking inspiration from Vacheron Constantin’s Maltese cross emblem.

The first-generation Overseas debuted in stainless steel and solid gold, with a 37mm case powered by the COSC-certified Caliber 1310 — a modified version of the ultra-thin Girard-Perregaux 3100 featuring a quickset date and hacking seconds. The collection expanded with midsize 35mm and 24mm models, and in 1999, a chronograph version was introduced, equipped with the Frédéric Piguet-based automatic Caliber 1137. The original generation remained in production until 2004 and was offered in a variety of case metals and dial configurations.

In 2004, the second generation of the Overseas had a more robust and sportier design. The case was upsized to 42mm, and the bracelet incorporated a polished Maltese cross motif. Vacheron Constantin also introduced a guilloché dial and broadened the line with additional complications such as dual-time models and even perpetual calendar chronographs. Other subtle modifications included the removal of the crown guards and new patterned dial textures, enhancing both form and function while maintaining the collection’s signature design language.

The third-generation Overseas was released in 2016 and saw major changes. While the watch retained its design aesthetic, the case was refined for a cleaner and more elegant look. The biggest innovation was a new strap interchangeability system, allowing wearers to swap between steel, leather, and rubber straps without tools. Additionally, this generation moved to entirely in-house manufactured movements.

Today, the Overseas collection includes ultra-thin models, chronographs, perpetual calendars, and skeletonized variations, known for its blend of refined craftsmanship and sporty practicality.
