(No. 1) Jessica Pegula def. (No. 4) Iga Switek 6-4, 7-5
Top-seeded Jessica Pegula captured her third title of the season and second career grass-court title with a straight-sets win over Iga Swiatek in the Bad Homburg final on Saturday.
Pegula, who also won titles earlier this year in Austin and Charleston, now owns nine WTA career titles. Her consistent play throughout the tournament resulted in a poised win against the five-time Grand Slam champion.
In the first set, Pegula secured a crucial break at 3-3 to go up 5-3 and served out to win the set. The second set was tighter, with both players holding serve until Pegula converted a break point at 5-5, then held to close out the match.
Although Swiatek fired nine aces and recorded 30 winners to Pegula’s 15, she struggled with consistency, committing 39 unforced errors compared to Pegula’s 16. Pegula was in control on serve, saving the only break point she faced and won a higher percentage of both her first and second serve points compared to Swiatek.
Swiatek, who was aiming for her first career title on grass, will now turn her focus to Wimbledon, which begins in two days. Pegula solidifies her status as one of the tour’s most consistent performers in 2025 with the win and will be one of the top contenders at Wimbledon.
