Shohei Ohtani Hits Walk-Off Grand Slam to Join the 40/40 Club (Sports)

August 23, 2024

Shohei Ohtani hit a two-out grand slam in the 9th inning to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 7-3 win against the Tampa Bay Rays earlier tonight. This was his 40th home run of the season, and he also stole his 40th base earlier in the game as well. Ohtani becomes the 6th player in MLB history to join the 40-40 club (40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season), and the fastest player to join the club, doing it in 126 games. Ohtani breaks the previous record that was held by Alfonso Soriano in 147 games with the Washington Nationals in 2006.

Shohei Ohtani is having an MVP caliber year, and this is his third season in the MLB with more than 40 homers. It’s only August 24th, and he has a solid chance to be the first 50-50 player in MLB history.
