Grace Kim delivered one of the most dramatic final-round comebacks in major championship history to win the Amundi Evian Championship in France, becoming just the fifth Australian woman to win a golf major—joining Karrie Webb, Minjee Lee, Hannah Green, and Jan Stephenson.
The 24-year-old, battling a cold throughout the week, was three shots behind the lead with four holes remaining on Sunday. She closed with a clutch stretch of birdie-birdie-par-eagle, tying Thailand’s world No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul at 14-under-par to force a playoff.
Kim’s final-hole eagle came with a 4-hybrid from 188 yards to set up a tap-in on the closing par 5. Thitikul had a 10-foot birdie putt to win in regulation but missed, sending the championship into extra holes.
The drama escalated on the first playoff hole. After finding the hazard with her second shot, Kim miraculously chipped in for birdie to extend the playoff. On the second extra hole, Thitikul faltered again, unable to match Kim’s third eagle of the day. Kim closed with a final-round 67 to post a 14-under-par total of 270.
Kim’s composure under pressure and pinpoint shot-making delivered one of the most thrilling finishes in recent major championship history, capped by one of the clutchest final three-hole stretches in golf history. It was a breakthrough performance that announced Kim as a rising star on golf’s biggest stage.
