Scheffler Wins Open Championship, Secures Fourth Major Title

On Sunday at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, Scottie Scheffler added yet another milestone to his remarkable career, winning the Open Championship by four strokes to claim his fourth major title and second of 2025. The world No. 1 continues to etch his name into golf history, joining legends Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player as the only players to win the Open, the Masters, and the PGA Championship before turning 30.

Scheffler’s consistency and dominance were on full display throughout the week. He began the final round with a four-shot lead and quickly extended it to five after two holes. His only blemish came at the par-4 8th hole, where he found a bunker off the tee and misfired his next shot into the bunker wall. The ball rolled back into the sand, forcing another escape attempt. He eventually made a double bogey, snapping a streak of 32 consecutive bogey-free holes.

In classic Scheffler fashion, he responded immediately. On the 9th hole, he launched a perfect drive, hit his approach to within five feet, and made birdie to regain momentum. From there, he played the back nine in control, carding eight pars and a birdie—more than enough to keep the field away from his lead.

Scheffler closed with a final-round 68 and finished at 17-under 267, securing the Claret Jug and delivering yet another dominant performance. With three of the four majors now under his belt, he will look to complete the career Grand Slam next year at the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in New York.

Heading into the tournament, Scheffler offered a glimpse into his mindset, reflecting on the fleeting nature of winning before his focus shifts to the next challenge. He shared that while he loves the grind and thrives on competition, he often reflects on personal fulfillment and questions why he’s so driven to win when the thrill of victory is so short-lived.

Since the 2021 Ryder Cup, Scheffler has now won four of the last 16 major championships—including the 2022 and 2024 Masters, this year’s PGA Championship, and Open Championship. He also holds 13 PGA Tour titles, an Olympic gold medal from Paris 2024, and eight additional top-10 finishes in majors during that span.

Scottie Scheffler remains the undisputed world No. 1 and the face of golf’s current era.
