Miyu Yamashita Captures First Major Title at AIG Women’s Open

In Southern Wales, Japanese rookie Miyu Yamashita claimed the AIG Women’s Open title with a two-shot win over Charley Hull and Minami Katsu at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, capturing the year’s fifth and final major championship.

Yamashita finished with a four-day total of 11 under par, securing both her first career LPGA Tour win and her first major title. She closed with a 2-under 70 in the final round, highlighted by two clutch par putts on the back nine.

Her toughest challenge came at the 401-yard 16th hole, one of the most difficult on the course, where she hit her drive down the center and found the green in regulation, narrowly missing a 45-foot birdie putt. That hole gave her a three-shot lead with two holes to play.

Charley Hull and Minami Katsu each shot 3-under 69s to share second place. Hull was in position for a dramatic finish, but her opportunity faded with consecutive bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes. Despite her late push, those stumbles left her two strokes short.

Yamashita sealed her victory with a tap-in par on the 18th, finishing at 11-under 277, and raised both arms in triumph. She is the second Japanese player to win a major this season, joining Mao Saigo, who captured The Chevron Championship in April. Yamashita also becomes the latest first-time winner on the LPGA Tour this year, continuing a trend of no repeat champions through the first 20 tournaments of the season.
