(No. 1) Aryna Sabalenka def. Markéta Vondroušová (Walkover)
Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the US Open semifinals on Tuesday night without stepping on court, as 2023 Wimbledon champion Markéta Vondroušová withdrew from their quarterfinal match due to a knee injury sustained during practice earlier in the day.
Sabalenka will now face No. 4 Jessica Pegula in Thursday’s semifinals, a rematch of last year’s championship match that Sabalenka won in straight sets.
(No. 4) Jessica Pegula def. Barbora Krejcikova 6-3, 6-3
Jessica Pegula, the No. 4 seed and last year’s US Open runner-up, reached the second Grand Slam semifinal of her career with a straight-sets win over Barbora Krejcikova. Pegula has yet to drop a set at this year’s tournament and has only been pushed past 5-all once, in the second set of her third-round win over Victoria Azarenka.
Pegula has lost just 23 games through five matches, the fewest by an American woman en route to a Grand Slam semifinal since Serena Williams dropped 22 games before the 2016 Australian Open semis.
After falling short in her first 22 Grand Slam main-draw appearances, Pegula is now into her second straight US Open semifinal, setting up another match against Aryna Sabalenka after the defending champion advanced via walkover.
(No. 23) Naomi Osaka def. (No. 11) Karolína Muchová 6-4, 7-6 (3)
Two-time US Open champion Naomi Osaka extends her US Open run with a straight-sets win over No. 11 seed Karolína Muchová on Wednesday night, advancing to the semifinals at Flushing Meadows for the first time since her 2020 title run.
The win was Osaka’s sixth consecutive tour-level win over a top-20 opponent, tying the longest streak of her career (2019–20). Seeded at a major for the first time since giving birth to her daughter in July 2023, Osaka has rediscovered her top form. She defeated No. 3 seed Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-2 in the fourth round and has dropped only one set in the tournament.
Osaka will face Amanda Anisimova in Thursday’s semifinals with a spot in the final on the line.
(No. 8) Amanda Anisimova def. (No. 2) Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-3
No. 8 seed Amanda Anisimova pulled off the upset win, defeating world No. 2 Iga Swiatek in straight sets to reach her first US Open semifinal and third career Grand Slam semifinal. The win came less than two months after Anisimova lost to Swiatek 6-0, 6-0 in the Wimbledon final.
This time, Anisimova flipped the script, hitting 23 winners to Swiatek’s 13 and converting 4 of 9 break points. Swiatek created just 4 break chances, converting 2.
Anisimova will now face four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in Thursday’s semifinals as she looks to reach a second consecutive major final. Anisimova has won both of her previous meetings against Osaka, though the two have not met since the 2022 French Open.
