The opening week of the 2025 NFL season is officially in the books, and it didn’t disappoint.
The regular season kicked off Thursday night, when the Eagles held off the Cowboys in a dramatic opener that featured a lightning delay and the ejection of Philadelphia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who was tossed after spitting on quarterback Dak Prescott before the first play from scrimmage. On Friday, the Chargers stunned the Chiefs with a narrow upset in São Paulo, Brazil.
Sunday brought even more chaos. In the early slate, new Colts quarterback Daniel Jones scored three touchdowns in a blowout win over the Dolphins. A quarterback reunion also took place, as Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers faced Justin Fields and the Jets; Rodgers threw four touchdown passes in the win. In New England, Pete Carroll made history by winning his debut as Raiders head coach against the Patriots, becoming the oldest head coach in NFL history at 73 years and 357 days.
In the late window, the Packers rolled past the Lions behind a dominant defensive showing in Micah Parsons’ debut with Green Bay. The 49ers rallied for a dramatic win over the Seahawks, scoring the go-ahead touchdown in the final two minutes on the road. Sunday night wrapped up in Buffalo, where the Bills mounted a thrilling comeback scoring 16 points in the final 4 minutes to beat the Ravens in another back-and-forth battle.
Week 1 wrapped up on Monday night with rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy leading the Vikings to a comeback win over the Bears in his first career NFL start. McCarthy, who missed the entire 2024 season with a torn meniscus, delivered late heroics to cap the NFL’s opening week.
