(No. 1) Jannik Sinner def. Learner Tien 6-2, 6-2
Jannik Sinner bounced back from his US Open loss by returning to the winner’s circle at the China Open in Beijing, where he defeated American teenager Learner Tien in straight sets in Wednesday’s final. The win marked Sinner’s third title of the season and the 21st of his career, adding to his previous triumph in Beijing in 2023.
The 19-year-old Tien, playing in his first tour-level final, was bidding to become the second-youngest champion in tournament history. But Sinner dictated play from start to finish, controlling rallies through the middle of the court and using his aggressive shot-making into the corners to secure the championship in just 72 minutes.
Sinner was clinical, hitting 24 winners against 16 unforced errors, saving both break points he faced, and winning 73% (8 of 11) of points at the net. Tien, meanwhile, managed 11 winners but was undone by 18 unforced errors.
Already a two-time major champion this year with titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, Sinner has now become the fourth player in 2025 to capture three or more trophies. Carlos Alcaraz leads the tour with eight.
Sinner now turns his focus to the Shanghai Masters later this week, where he enters as the favorite following Alcaraz’s withdrawal due to an ankle injury sustained during his title run at the Japan Open.
