2025 World Series Game 6: (NL No. 3) Los Angeles Dodgers def. (AL No. 1) Toronto Blue Jays 3-1
The Los Angeles Dodgers held off the Toronto Blue Jays 3–1 in Game 6 of the World Series on Friday night, surviving a chaotic ninth inning that ended with a dramatic, game-ending double play to force a decisive Game 7.
The final out came when Toronto shortstop Andrés Giménez lined a sinking drive into shallow left field off Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow, who was making a rare bullpen appearance. Kiké Hernández charged in to make a clean catch, then fired an off-balance throw to second baseman Miguel Rojas to double off Addison Barger, who had went too far from the bag as the potential tying run. The play marked the first postseason game-ending double play from left field to second in baseball history.
The moment capped a wild sequence just moments earlier, when Roki Sasaki appeared to be in trouble. Sasaki hit Alejandro Kirk with an 0-2 splitter to open the inning, and Barger followed with a 106 mph drive off the left-center wall. The ball became lodged between the padding and the warning track, and while Barger circled the bases and Straw crossed home, umpires immediately ruled the hit a ground-rule double, sending Straw back to third and Barger to second. After a replay review confirmed the call, Glasnow entered from the bullpen, threw only three pitches, and recorded the final two outs to earn the save.
All four runs came in the third inning. The Dodgers broke through first, taking a 3–0 lead on a three-run frame highlighted by Will Smith’s RBI double and a two-run single from Mookie Betts, who snapped an 0-for-13 slump with the bases loaded by working the count full and lining a fastball between short and third. George Springer, returning after missing two games with a sore right oblique strain, drove in the Blue Jays’ only run in the bottom half.
Starting pitchers Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Kevin Gausman were sharp again after their Game 2 matchup, each working six strong innings before turning the game over to the bullpens. Yamamoto beat Toronto for the second time in a week, allowing just one run while striking out seven.
The series now heads to Game 7, the first winner-take-all World Series game since 2019. Toronto will start Max Scherzer, while the Dodgers have not officially named a starter—Shohei Ohtani and Tyler Glasnow are both possibilities. Rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage may also be available behind Scherzer, and both managers are expected to lean heavily on their full pitching staffs with the championship on the line. Glasnow, after throwing just three pitches, said he would be available again Saturday.
The World Series will end in November for the 10th time, and this year’s Fall Classic will be decided in a Game 7.
