Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford passed former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to move into sixth place on the NFL’s all-time passing yards list Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons.
Stafford surpassed Roethlisberger with his first completion of the second half—an 11-yard pass to wide receiver Puka Nacua—which pushed his career total to 64,096 passing yards. Roethlisberger, who spent all 18 of his NFL seasons with the Steelers before retiring in 2022, finished his career with 64,088 regular-season passing yards.
Stafford entered the 2025 season with 59,809 career yards and became the 10th quarterback in NFL history to reach the 60,000-yard milestone in the Rams’ season opener against the Houston Texans. Needing 191 yards to hit the mark, he threw for 245 yards in the win. He continued to move up the record books by passing Dan Marino for ninth place in Week 6 against the Ravens and Matt Ryan for eighth in Week 13 against the Panthers.
The 60,000-yard club also saw Philip Rivers coming out of retirement to rejoin the Indianapolis Colts with four games remaining. Rivers initially sat just ahead of Stafford on the all-time list, but Stafford passed him in Week 16 to move into seventh place.
Entering Week 17, Stafford trailed Roethlisberger by 100 yards. He overtook him early in the third quarter against Atlanta, while Rivers ended the week 104 yards behind Roethlisberger.
Despite Los Angeles’ 27–24 loss to the Falcons, Stafford finished the night with 269 passing yards, bringing his career total to 64,257 and solidifying his place as sixth on the NFL’s all-time passing list.
