Chiefs trade CB Trent McDuffie to Rams for four draft picks

The Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a trade that sends All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie to Los Angeles in exchange for a package of draft picks highlighted by the No. 29 selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.

McDuffie, 25, was a first-round pick by Kansas City in 2022 and is entering the final season of his rookie contract. The Chiefs exercised his fifth-year option in April, locking in a fully guaranteed $13.6 million salary for 2026. Now headed to Los Angeles, McDuffie will have the opportunity to negotiate a long-term extension with the Rams and play closer to his hometown of Westminster, California.

Kansas City will receive the Rams’ first-round pick in 2026 (No. 29), along with fifth- and sixth-round selections in this year’s draft, plus a 2027 third-round pick. The Chiefs originally traded up to select McDuffie in 2022, moving from No. 29 to No. 21, and he has delivered on that investment with elite production and consistency in the secondary.

McDuffie earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2023 and followed that with a second-team All-Pro selection in 2024. Over the past three seasons, he has been widely viewed as Kansas City’s top defensive back and second only to pass rusher Chris Jones among the team’s defenders. Known for his versatility, McDuffie excelled both in the slot and on the perimeter while also contributing as a blitzer.

Cornerback was a major offseason priority for the Rams, who entered the spring with multiple pending free agents at the position. McDuffie immediately fills that need for a Los Angeles team that finished 12-5 last season and narrowly lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game.

In 2024, McDuffie produced the most complete season of his career, posting two interceptions, 13 pass breakups, 59 tackles, four quarterback hits and a forced fumble. His arrival solidifies the Rams’ secondary and signals a clear win-now move as Los Angeles looks to build on last season’s deep playoff run.
