LeBron James passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become NBA’s all-time leader in made field goals

LeBron James has already scored more points than anyone in NBA history. On Thursday night, he added another record breaking achievement to his resume by becoming the league’s all-time leader in made field goals. The milestone came during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 120–113 loss to the Denver Nuggets, further cementing James’ place atop the NBA record book.

James reached the mark in the first quarter when he hit a turnaround baseline jumper over Denver forward Zeke Nnaji with 12.3 seconds remaining. It was his third basket of the game and the 15,838th made field goal of his career, moving him past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most in league history. James finished the night with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting.

The record is the latest addition to a list of historic benchmarks for James, who previously surpassed Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer on Feb. 7, 2023. He has since pushed that total to 43,127 combined regular-season and playoff points, extending his lead by thousands over the previous standard. Longevity and consistency have defined his career, with James now in his 23rd NBA season, more than any player has ever completed.

Beyond scoring, James is also the league’s all-time leader in minutes played and field goal attempts. He ranks fourth all-time in assists and sixth in steals, underscoring his all-around impact across two decades. His next major milestone is the NBA record for regular-season games played, currently held by Robert Parish at 1,611. James sits at 1,606 and could break the record on March 16 against the Houston Rockets if he appears in every game leading up to that date.
