Bam Adebayo had one of the most astonishing scoring performances in NBA history on Tuesday night, producing a game that now sits alongside the legendary outings of Wilt Chamberlain and Kobe Bryant. Adebayo erupted for 83 points to lead the Miami Heat to a 150–129 win over the Washington Wizards at Kaseya Center, recording the second-highest single-game scoring total the league has ever seen.
Known primarily as an elite defender and a five-time NBA All-Defensive selection, Bam Adebayo delivered a historic offensive showcase that few could have imagined. He finished the night shooting 20-of-43 from the field, 7-for-22 from three-point range, and an unprecedented 36-of-43 from the free-throw line. The latter two figures set NBA single-game records for free throws made and attempted, reflecting how relentlessly he attacked the Wizards’ defense. With 1:16 remaining in the fourth quarter, Adebayo sank two free throws to reach 83 points before being pulled from the game moments later.
Adebayo’s scoring began immediately. He poured in 31 points in the opening quarter, the most dominant scoring quarter of the 2025–26 season to date, and carried 43 points into halftime. He reached 62 by the end of the third quarter before cooling slightly in the second half, finishing the night shooting just under 50% overall. Even so, he became the only player in NBA history to score at least 70 points while shooting below 50% from the field, a testament to his constant pressure and ability to draw fouls.
The fourth quarter became a spectacle of its own. With Miami in the bonus, the Heat made little effort to hide their intent to feed Adebayo, while Washington tried unsuccessfully to foul other players to slow the march toward history. As Adebayo closed in on Bryant’s iconic 81-point game from 2006, Miami even resorted to intentionally fouling on defense to preserve time and extend possessions.
The performance was all the more stunning given Adebayo’s career context. Entering the night, he averaged just 18.9 points per game this season and had only once topped 20 points per game over a full year. His previous career high was 41, set in 2021 against the Brooklyn Nets. Chamberlain’s 100-point game from 1962 remains untouchable, but on this night, Adebayo firmly claimed his place in NBA lore, delivering a scoring masterpiece that will be remembered for generations.
