Shohei Ohtani tosses six scoreless innings in rainy mound debut as Dodgers beat Guardians 4–1

A dominant Shohei Ohtani delivered six shutout innings in his first pitching start of the season as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Cleveland Guardians 4 to 1 on Tuesday night in rainy conditions. Making his first appearance on the mound in 150 days, Ohtani set the tone early and kept Cleveland’s lineup in check throughout his outing.

Ohtani allowed just one hit while striking out six and walking three across six scoreless frames. That lone hit came in the fourth inning, a two out double by Rhys Hoskins. Ohtani threw 87 pitches, 54 for strikes, and earned the win in his first start since Game 7 of the World Series against Toronto. While his command was not flawless, he consistently disrupted timing and limited hard contact, retiring 11 of his first 13 batters.

Despite issuing three walks, Ohtani kept the Guardians off balance with a mix of velocity and movement. He worked around free passes to Gabriel Arias and Steven Kwan in the third inning before giving up his only hit allowed. Dating back to Aug. 27 of last season, Ohtani has now gone 22 and two thirds consecutive regular season innings without allowing a run, the longest streak of his major league career and the longest active streak in baseball. Following his second elbow surgery last year, both Ohtani and the Dodgers believe he is poised to take another step forward as a pitcher.

Ohtani also contributed at the plate, going one for three with a strikeout and two walks. He reached base three times overall, extending his on base streak to 36 games dating back to Aug. 24, 2025, which remains the longest active streak in Major League Baseball. In a performance that showcased his rare two way impact, Ohtani once again proved why he remains one of the most dominant forces in the sport.
