Jannik Sinner Defeats Novak Djokovic to Win Shanghai Masters Title (Sports)
October 13, 2024
Current world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 4 Novak Djokovic faced off at the Shanghai Masters final earlier today. Sinner ended up taking the win over Djokovic in straight sets 7-6 (4) and 6-3 to win the Shanghai Masters title.
Going into the match Djokovic was looking to win his 100th tour-level title, and fifth Shanghai title. Jimmy Connors with 109 titles and Roger Federer with 103 titles are the only ones in men’s tennis history to have won more than 100 career titles.
Sinner is having a career year, and was in control of most of the match against Djokovic. Sinner didn’t face any break points, and hit 8 aces and 22 winners. Djokovic on the other hand hit 4 aces and 12 winners.
Sinner is 8-2 against top-five ranked opponents on the hard courts this season, with the two losses coming against Carlos Alcaraz. With no more surfaces changes for the rest of the year Sinner will look to keep the momentum going and finish the season with the world No. 1 ranking.
Djokovic only won one title this year at the Paris Olympics, but has dealt with a number of injuries earlier in the season. He will look to finish the season in the top-5.
