In 2019, ALD began their partnership with New Balance by releasing two pastel colorways of the New Balance 997 model. Both colorways featured similar color blocking, and ALD encouraged customers who purchased both pairs to mismatch the left and right shoes. The design was inspired by New York City’s cultural fabric and handball culture, blending nostalgia with authenticity.
Five years later, ALD is doing the mismatching themselves with the release of the ‘ALD / New Balance 997 OG Mismatch.’ This pair features mismatched shoes, each showcasing a colorway from the original ALD New Balance 997. The left shoe has a yellow tongue with pink and dark blue accents around the collar, while the right shoe sports a dark pink tongue with teal and light pink around the collar.The forefoot and quarter sections on both shoes remain consistent, with both shoes featuring light and dark grey suede panels and a white mesh toebox.
The mismatched “Made In USA” Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance 997 will retail for $220 on ALD’s website.
