Air Jordan 5 ‘Grape’

The Air Jordan 5 “Grape” returned in 2025, reissued for the first time with Nike Air branding on the heel since its original debut in 1990. As one of the most popular OG colorways in Jordan Brand history, the “Grape” broke away from the traditional black, red, and white palette seen on earlier Jordans. Its combination of white leather, Grape Ice, and New Emerald accents gave a nod to the Charlotte Hornets—a team located in Michael Jordan’s home state of North Carolina—and helped cement the sneaker’s place in pop culture, especially after being famously worn by Will Smith on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Previous retro releases dropped in 2006 and 2013, both of which featured the Jumpman logo on the heel instead of Nike Air. In 2018, a special laceless “Fresh Prince” edition released to honor Will Smith’s iconic TV character. While it did include Nike Air branding, purists didn’t consider it a true retro due to the modified construction.

The 2025 version returns with subtle shape refinements that bring it closer to the original, including a streamlined collar and a more slanted toe box. Along with the return of Nike Air branding on the heel, this version features translucent netting on the tongue and side panels, clear lace locks, and a matching translucent outsole. These updates aim to stay true to the original design while appealing to both collectors and new fans.

The 2025 Air Jordan 5 “Grape” released on Saturday, June 21, retailing for $210. Already being viewed as one of the most accurate retros in recent memory, the return of the “Grape” Jordan 5 marks a major moment for sneakerheads and Jordan collectors.
