Apple Intelligence
July 1, 2024
“Apple Intelligence” encapsulates Apple’s strategy of taking innovations from elsewhere and making them mainstream and user-friendly. While artificial intelligence (AI) has traditionally been reserved for data scientists and tech tech bros, Apple Intelligence aims to bring AI into the broader mainstream audience.
Tech media has been telling the world that Apple has been behind on AI for the last couple years, while most of their competitors have been having troubles with the AI products they have been producing. Apple always seems to be behind, but their business based on mostly improving vs inventing.
It is estimated that AI will generate $20 billion in revenue for AI “leaders” Alphabet, Amazon, and Microsoft in 2024, which is only 2% of Apple’s combined revenue. Apple pretty much already makes $20 billion just from Airpods, so it shows that the AI industry is still a long ways away from the average consumer.
General media doesn’t see Apple as an attractive employer for cutting-edge AI researchers because of their secrecy with R&D. Apple will probably continue to let artificial intelligence scientists work elsewhere and publish their work and ideas freely, and put out a mainstream way to use AI a couple years down the line.
