Aryna Sabalenka Defeats Jessica Pegula to Win First US Open Title

Aryna Sabalenka (No. 2) defeated American Jessica Pegula (No. 6) 7-5, 7-5 earlier today to claim her third career Grand Slam title and first US Open title. This was a really close match with both players having strong moments throughout the match. Sabalenka started off the first set with a 5-2 lead, until Pegula was able to build some momentum to get the match back to 5-all. Sabalenka would end up winning the first set, and started the second set with a 3-0 lead.

A year ago, Sabalenka lost in the final to Coco Gauff with a one-set lead, and the two seasons prior she lost in the semifinals. Sabalenka was able to pull though and look back on those past experiences and years of work to finally clinch the US Open title.
