Carlos Alcaraz Defeats Jannik Sinner to Win China Open Title (Sports)
October 2, 2024
Current world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz faced off at the China Open final earlier today. Alzaraz would take the win over Sinner in a close 3 sets 6-7 (6), 6-4, 7-6 (3) to win the China Open title. The match came down to a third set tiebreak and Alcaraz was able to win seven straight points to win the breaker and bring home the title.
Both players have had career years with both players winning 2 Grand Slams each this season. Alcaraz however, has beaten Sinner in all three of their meetings this season (China Open Final, Indian Wells Semifinal, French Open Semifinal). Alcaraz’s win also snapped Sinner’s 15 match winning streak and the chance at winning three consecutive titles (Cincinnati, US Open, China). Alcaraz and Sinner have both been dominant all year, and they both look to finish off the season strong with two more Masters 1000 tournaments and the Nitto ATP Finals.
