Jacksonville Jaguars rookie and two-way standout Travis Hunter underwent surgery to repair an LCL injury in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday.
Hunter was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 31, a day after suffering a noncontact injury during practice while working on defense. Initial MRI results confirmed his ACL was intact, but further testing revealed significant LCL damage, prompting surgery. According to the team, he did not sustain any additional structural injuries and is expected to resume full football activities within six months.
The Jaguars traded up to select Hunter with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and he had been working toward becoming the NFL’s first full-time two-way player in nearly 60 years. In his seven games, he caught 28 passes for 298 yards and a touchdown on offense, while adding 15 tackles, three pass breakups, and a fumble recovery as a cornerback. Prior to the injury, he had played 67% of Jacksonville’s offensive snaps and 36% of the defensive snaps.
His final appearance of the season was his most impressive offensive outing. Against the Los Angeles Rams in London during Week 7, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner caught eight passes for 104 yards and his first NFL touchdown in a 35-7 loss.
To acquire Hunter, the Jaguars sent the Cleveland Browns four draft picks—including a 2026 first-rounder, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2025 fourth-rounder—to move up three spots to No. 2. Jacksonville also received fourth- and sixth-round selections in the 2025 draft as part of the deal.
