September 8, 2024
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner defeated American Taylor Fritz (No. 12) 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 to win his first US Open title and second career Grand Slam title. Sinner was dominant for most of the match, especially toward the end, not dropping any points on his first serve during the final two sets. Sinner is having a huge year being 35-2 on hard courts (most hard-court wins on men’s tour) with his only two losses being against Carlos Alcaraz at Indian Wells and Andrey Rublev at Montreal. Shanghai and Paris are the last two Masters 1000 tournaments left on the calendar before the ATP Finals, and Sinner will look to finish the season strong to keep his world No. 1 ranking.
Fritz has a ton of positive takeaways from this tournament, being able to make his first career Grand Slam semi-final and final. American men’s tennis is in a strong position to contended for Grand Slam titles with five players currently ranked in the top 20.
