Lewis Hamilton Ends Mercedes F1 Career with P4 Comeback Finish (Sports)
December 8, 2024
Lewis Hamilton finished his Mercedes F1 career at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with a gritty comeback, finishing 4th after starting 16th. Hamilton will join Ferrari in 2025 after 12 seasons, 246 Grands Prix, 84 race wins, and 6 drivers’ world championships with Mercedes. This marks the end of the longest and most successful driver-team partnership in F1 history, which also adds to the title Hamilton won with McLaren in 2008.
Hamilton is contracted with Mercedes until the end of the calendar year, so his Ferrari debut won’t occur until early 2025 unless an early release allows him to participate in Ferrari’s post-season testing. Hamilton will now aim to secure a record-breaking 8th drivers’ world championship and end Ferrari’s title drought, which dates back to Kimi Raikkonen’s 2007 championship — the same year as Hamilton’s rookie F1 season.
