Maja Stark Captures First Major with U.S. Women’s Open Win at Erin Hills

Maja Stark claimed her first major championship on Sunday, winning the U.S. Women’s Open at Erin Hills in Wisconsin. The win marks her second LPGA Tour title, adding to her 2022 win at the ISPS Handa World Invitational in Northern Ireland—an event co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour.

Stark finished with an even-par 72 in the final round to finish at 7-under 281, securing a two-shot win over world No. 1 Nelly Korda and Japan’s Rio Takeda. Korda finished with a 71, while Takeda matched Stark with a 72.

Entering the final round with a one-stroke lead over Spain’s Julia Lopez Ramirez, Stark maintained her composure as Ramirez struggled, shooting a final-round 79 that included a triple-bogey 8 on the final hole. Lopez Ramirez fell out of contention early and finished the event tied for 19th.

Korda, the tournament’s biggest threat, started the day three strokes behind but came out strong, playing the front nine in 2-under to apply early pressure. Stark, however, stayed steady and made key birdies on the par-4 11th and par-5 14th to extend her lead to three each time. Her birdie putts on the 12th and 13th narrowly missed, preventing an even wider lead.

Despite a pulled drive and bogey on the par-4 17th, followed by another bogey on the 18th, Stark remained in control and sealed her win, finishing two shots ahead of the field to capture her first major championship.
