The UFC’s third Noche UFC event took place Saturday in San Antonio, celebrating Mexican Independence Day with a card filled with punishing stoppages, back-and-forth wars, and a main event that exceeded the hype.
The main card kicked off with newcomer Santiago Luna, who made his debut by scoring a first-round stoppage win over Quang Le. San Antonio native Alexander Hernandez followed with his second victory in just four weeks, stopping Diego Ferreira to the delight of the home crowd. The momentum carried into the next three fights, all hard-fought battles. Kelvin Gastelum, Rafa Garcia, and David Martinez each secured victories in thrilling, competitive showdowns that kept the energy high inside the arena.
In the main event, featherweight contenders Diego Lopes and Jean Silva engaged in an all-out brawl. After a chaotic first round, Lopes took control and secured a second-round stoppage, halting Silva’s impressive run and cementing his own place as one of the division’s must-watch fighters.
Main Event: Diego Lopes def. Jean Silva via TKO (strikes) at 4:48 of Round 2
Diego Lopes bounced back in thrilling fashion Saturday night, scoring a knockout win over Jean Silva in an all-action featherweight main event at Noche UFC in San Antonio.
Lopes (27-7), fighting for the first time since his April title loss to featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, wasted no time asserting control. He put Silva on the canvas early in Round 1, quickly advancing to full mount. From there, he unleashed a barrage of elbows that left Silva bloodied and in serious trouble. Lopes also threatened submissions during the sequence, but Silva managed to endure nearly two minutes in the dangerous position and survive the round.
The momentum shifted in Round 2 as Silva (16-3) came out aggressively, pressing forward and landing heavy shots while repeatedly attempting spinning back elbows. The two engaged in wild exchanges across the Octagon, but Lopes delivered the decisive blow late in the frame. With Silva charging forward, Lopes landed a perfectly timed spinning elbow that dropped Silva. He followed up with nearly two dozen unanswered punches before referee Mike Beltran stopped the fight at 4:48 of the second round.
The win reaffirms Lopes’ status as one of the division’s top contenders. After falling short in his bid for the vacant title earlier this year, he reminded fans and matchmakers that he remains firmly in the championship picture.
For Silva, the loss ends a 13-fight winning streak that dated back to 2018. He entered the fight with a perfect 5-0 UFC record, all by finish, which was the longest active finish streak in the promotion.
