December 20, 2024
No. 7 Notre Dame won the inaugural game of the 12-team College Football Playoff, defeating No. 10 Indiana 27-17. The Irish extended their winning streak to 11 games and will now face No. 2 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day.
Notre Dame took control of the game early, with Jeremiyah Love scoring a 98-yard touchdown on the team’s third offensive play. The touchdown tied Notre Dame’s record for the longest run and made Love the first player to score in the end zone in the new 12-team playoff format.
Indiana finishes the season with an 11-2 record, with both losses coming against ranked teams currently in the playoff. The Hoosiers set a single-season school record for wins but ended their season with their second-lowest point total of the year in the loss to the Irish.
