Pacers Blow Out Thunder to Send the NBA Finals to a Deciding Game 7

The Indiana Pacers have pushed the NBA Finals to a decisive winner-take-all Game 7, blowing out the Oklahoma City Thunder 108–91 on Thursday night in Indianapolis. With the series now tied 3–3, this marks the first NBA Finals to reach a Game 7 since 2016, when the Cleveland Cavaliers famously came back from down 1-3 to defeat the Golden State Warriors. Both the Pacers and Thunder are now just one win away from an NBA championship.

Indiana bounced back from game 5 in a big way, dominating the game after missing their first eight shots of the game. The Pacers erupted with a massive first-half run, outscoring the Thunder 36–17 in the second quarter to take a commanding 22-point lead at halftime. They extended that margin to 30 by the end of the third, turning the fourth quarter into garbage time.

The Pacers relied on a balanced offensive attack, with six players scoring in double figures. Obi Toppin led all Indiana scorers with 20 points, while Andrew Nembhard led the starters with 17 points. Tyrese Haliburton, who was questionable heading into the game due to a calf strain, played just 22 minutes in the comfortable win and finished with 14 points and 5 assists.

T.J. McConnell continued his stellar playoff play with his best performance yet, with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals off the bench. Indiana’s relentless defense was the story of the night, forcing 21 Oklahoma City turnovers, which led to 19 points, while committing just 10 turnovers themselves.

The Pacers also shut down the Thunder from the perimeter, holding them to just 8-of-30 shooting from three-point range (26.7%). Oklahoma City’s starters combined to shoot a poor 1-of-13 (7.7%) from deep. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 21 points but tied a career-worst with 8 turnovers.

With the series heading back to Oklahoma City for Game 7 on Sunday night, the Pacers now have a chance to pull off one of the greatest championship upsets in NBA history.
