The Porsche 930 Turbo Slantnose, also known as the 930 Flachbau (German for “flatnose”), was a rare version of Porsche’s 911 Turbo (930). The design was inspired by the Porsche 935 race car that competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. After the slant-nosed 935s debuted on the racetrack, demand grew for a street version among Porsche enthusiasts. Initially, Porsche created a one-off factory street version of the 935, but due to overwhelming interest, they eventually offered the Slantnose 911 through their special order program in limited numbers.
The defining feature of the 930 Slantnose is the “Flachbau” sloped-nose design, which replaces the traditional round headlights of the 911 with pop-up lights integrated into the hood to enhance aerodynamics and reduce drag. The car also features widened front and rear fenders, with the front fenders incorporating vented intakes to improve brake cooling.
Porsche produced three generations of the 911 Turbo Slantnose between 1982 and 1989. With only 948 units produced, it remains one of Porsche’s rarest models, including just 686 examples of the 930 Turbo Slantnose.
