Rolex Day-Date ‘Stella’ Dial (Lifestyle)
November 14, 2024
The “Stella Dial” Rolex Day-Date is a version of the Day-Date with a colorful lacquered dial that was produced from the 1970s up to the 1990s. The “Stella” dials are made of a lacquered enamel with a glossy finish, and come in a variety of colors from turquoise, coral, green, pink, yellow, red, orange, and blue. At the time the “Stella” dials weren’t widely popular, as most Rolex buyers opted for the more conservative Day-Date models. However, in recent years the older “Stella” dials have become very desirable especially with Rolex bringing back bright colored dials on their modern Day-Dates and Oyster Perpetual models. The older “Stella” dials in today’s market are still very desirable and extremely rare to find in good condition. Colors will vary based on the age and condition of each watch, and the lacquer is prone to cracking or fading over time.
The term “Stella” doesn’t have any official meaning, but people have speculated that the term was inspired by the Swiss company “Stella” that produced the lacquer for Rolex dials.
*My personal pick would be a yellow gold Day-Date with a yellow stella dial.
