Rookie Miranda Wang wins FM Championship by 1 stroke over Jeeno Thitikul

Miranda Wang held off world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul at the FM Championship to win her first LPGA title, becoming the 24th different winner on tour in 2025. The win also made Wang the seventh rookie to win this season, tying the LPGA record for most rookie winners in a single season, a feat last achieved in 1980 and matched again in 2009.

Wang entered the final round at TPC Boston with a three-shot lead and held it for much of the day, but a bogey on the 15th hole briefly dropped her one shot behind Thitikul. From there, Wang showed poise and resilience, closing with a 2-under 70 to secure a one-stroke win at 20-under 268.

Thitikul, who overtook Nelly Korda for the world’s No. 1 ranking three weeks ago, was in position to spoil Wang’s breakthrough win. Thitikul birdied five times on the front nine, including a wedge to two feet on the ninth, carding a 31 to tie for the lead.

Wang, meanwhile, showed signs of nerves. She missed a 3-foot birdie putt on the par-5 12th and then found a bunker on the 15th before settling for bogey, momentarily dropping her lead, but she responded with clutch play down the stretch and some help from Thitikul.

On the 17th hole, Thitikul found herself in the rough. She pulled her approach left, chipped long, and could not save par. Wang capitalized, hitting her approach to six feet and making birdie to reclaim the lead. On the par-5 closing hole, Wang two-putted from 25 feet for par, while Thitikul missed a chance to apply pressure after her wedge rolled back 20 feet.

The final margin was one stroke, as Thitikul closed with a 67. Wang’s win capped a remarkable week that began with a stunning opening round of eight birdies on her first nine holes after starting on the 10th tee, setting the tone for her breakthrough performance.

With her win, Wang extended the LPGA’s streak of no multiple champions through the season’s first 23 tournaments, continuing a season highlighted by rookies and first-time winners.
